Overnight closures on Almada Street
Published: Monday 13 October 2025
A short section of the westbound carriageway on Almada Street, Hamilton, will be closed for improvement works over two nights later this month.
The road will close from Muir Street to and including Guthrie Street at 8pm and reopen at 6am each morning on October 27 and 28 to ensure daytime access remains unaffected.
Drivers will be directed to an alternative route using Palace Grounds Road, Blackswell Lane, Low Patrick Street, Duke Street, Brandon Street and Union Street back onto Almada Street.
As works also include Guthrie Street, this too will be closed at its junction with Almada Street on both nights. A diversion route of Muir Street, Lower Auchingramont Road, Cadzow Street, Windmill Road, Saffronhall Lane and Montrose Crescent will be in place.
Colin Park, Head of Roads, Transportation, and Fleet Services said: “We fully appreciate the inconvenience and frustration road closures can cause, and we thank motorists, residents, and businesses in advance for their patience and cooperation.
“These works are essential to improve the road surface on this part of Almada Street, and we hope that all who use it will agree that the temporary inconvenience will deliver long-term benefits.
“As ever we would ask motorists in the area to plan ahead and build in additional journey time when they can.”
